Optimising Moisture Performance of Saint-Gobain’s iRoof™ System

Optimising Moisture Performance of Saint-Gobain’s iRoof™ System

Saint-Gobain Off-Site Solutions commissioned Ecosophy Studio to carry out dynamic hygrothermal modelling to evaluate the moisture and thermal performance of the iRoof™ system. The aim was to understand how the system performs in terms of moisture behaviour and thermal stability under different design and environmental conditions.

The scope of our assessment included parametric dynamic simulations of heat and moisture transfer across multiple UK climate zones and a range of indoor conditions. Through this comprehensive modelling exercise, we explored how each component and material of the system impacts moisture behaviour and hygrothermal conditions within the roof space under varied environmental conditions.

This analysis enabled us to provide Saint-Gobain with detailed, evidence-based insights to support product development -identifying opportunities to enhance moisture safety, refine system performance, and ensure robust long-term behaviour. The results informed key design decisions and contributed to optimising the system’s hygrothermal characteristics.

Our assessment supported iRoof™ in becoming the first panelised roofing system in the UK to achieve third-party BBA certification, marking a significant milestone in its development.
